Keeping Chloe Safe at Home and Safe Away from Home

Chloe is 24 years old. She lives in Supported Living Accommodation in a flat of her own. Chloe has Learning Disabilities and suffers with seizures; both daytime and nocturnal. She is a very sociable person and really enjoys going out with her friends to the local bowling alley and loves karaoke at a local pub.

The Challenge

Carers assist Chloe with medication compliance and with daily living activities including meal preparation, which they do together.

1-2-1 carer support is required for the 1 mile walk to the town for social meetings, due to the high risk of seizures.

Chloe has a pendant alarm system in her flat connected to onsite carers. What Chloe really wants is to be able to go out socially, without a carer.

The Pearl+ is a mobile digital solution which enables self-care for Vulnerable Independent People (VIPs) living on their own.

The Pearl + connects to our care platform, IntelliCare™, so the care circle will be able to set safety parameters, locate VIPs and if needed, direct them home or direct help to their location.

The Solution

It was agreed that the introduction of a Oysta Pearl + device may enable her to go out on her social occasions, without being accompanied. This would not eliminate the risk of seizures but would provide her with a safety net in case one did occur when she was out.

The Outcome

Chloe has had the Oysta Pearl + for over four years and it has really made a big impact upon her life. She feels independent, but safe in the knowledge that should anything happen she has the ability to easily call her carers, a taxi service or the monitoring centre if it is an emergency.

Thanks to the inbuilt falls sensor, she is also confident that should she fall due to a seizure that the emergency services (and her carers) will be able to respond to her exact location. The 1-2-1 carer support has not been required.
