Oysta supports Akwaaba, a charity which increases the opportunities available to children in Ghana that we, in the UK take for granted.
About Akwaaba
3.5 million children in Ghana live in poverty and over one third of those live in extreme poverty. There are 61,492 children living on the streets of Accra. One quarter of students in Ghana never complete primary school. 65% of children under 18 don’t attend school in Accra.
Akwaaba Volunteers was founded in 2015 by Jordan Palmer and King Boateng and both founders share a passion for creating better opportunities for young, disadvantaged people in Ghana through 4 key areas, health, education, sports and working with animals.
Akwaaba Volunteers aim is to “Brighten the future of the next generation”, alleviate poverty and create better opportunities for underprivileged children and disadvantaged communities. Projects are based in Labadi, a suburb of Ghana’s capital city. Through projects they aim to empower, develop and create sustainable futures to alleviate poverty and change lives.
Why is Oysta supporting Akwaaba?
Our Founder, Mario, said, “Having Met the founders Jordan and King I was so impressed with their commitment to supporting 350 children who now get food every day, education and Sports activities. Under extreme circumstances and little funding support, they manage to deliver amazing work and sustainable work, helping the children to gain skills to support them and their families throughout their lives and to help improve their future and their country's future.
It was helpful to see exactly how the money was being spent and that this small amount was able to support their charity for 4 months, but they need more help, they need to ensure finding and volunteering is maximised.
We are now working with their team to work out ways for Oysta staff to visit and support the children.”
